Clarins Skin care products and treatments

The Clarins brand was created in 1954 by Jacques Courtin and rapidly met with considerable success due both to its serious image and particular focus on the needs of women.

Over time and following a series of successes such as Double Serum, Beauty Flash Balm, Hand and Nail Treatment Cream, Eau Dynamisante to name just a few, Clarins became the French leader in skin care products in 1980 and the European leader in 1990, a position it maintains today.

Clarins uses optimal concentrations of active plant ingredients to ensure the maximum efficiency for its products. To remain on the cutting edge of advances offered by the plant world, Clarins allocates 3% of sales to its research laboratory.

Clarins products are subject to the most rigorous performance measurements and tolerance trials, and the most appropriate advice on application methods are systematically provided.

Clarins has adopted a strategy of selective distribution channels through perfumeries and department stores. Since 2003, boutiques operating under the brand's name have been opened in high traffic areas to increase its visibility. Online sales of Clarins products were launched in 2007 in France and the United States and will be extended in 2008 to other markets.

Clarins also proposes a range of beauty massage treatments through the Clarins Institutes, Clarins Skin Spas (in certain countries) or Spas by Clarins (located in luxury hotels with which Clarins has concluded partnerships). The expert hands of beauty therapists trained in the methods of the brand offer customers moments combining total relaxation with the benefits of Clarins' skin care products.

Clarins Make-up

Make-up represents a natural extension to the application of skin care products, a finishing touch that brings out a face's beauty by perfecting, smoothing or highlighting. Like its skin care lines, make-up products are the focus of Clarins’ advanced research and their formulas are enhanced by the latest innovations.

Make-up also brings together a multitude of colours and trends that underscore the relationship between the cosmetic segment and fashion. This is why, reflecting the calendar of the “Haute Couture” industry, Clarins launches every year spring-summer and fall-winter make-up collections in addition to seasonal collections for the summer and year-end holiday periods.

Finally, Make-up represents a vehicle for attracting a younger segment that in time will become regular customers of its skin care products. For this reason the make-up line was entirely renewed in 2007 with a general tester unit specially redesigned for the occasion. A play of colours and light, ergonomic packaging designs, formulas with advanced technologies and ease of application for long-lasting effect. With this new line, Clarins is well positioned to attract discerning women of every generation by offering a touch of fantasy, freshness and fun to the entire Clarins brand.

By leveraging its expertise in skin care, Clarins has been successful in expanding its make-up line through a few perfectly targeted products that have already achieved key positions.

Perfectors for the complexion, lips or eyes, and Perfecting Pens for an instantaneous and natural make-up finish. Another perfector that reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles with its acacia micro-pearls, Instant Smooth, launched in the 2006 second half, was the precursor of the new Make-up line that has already sold more than 1.3 million units throughout the world to date.

The Make-up range’s new modern and iridescent design has provided renewed momentum and growth potential to this activity. As a result in 2007, the brand achieved further market share gains for Make-up, with sales growth of 29.4%.

 Clarins Perfumes

In 2005, Clarins created two perfumes at the demand of loyal customers of its skin care products, par Amour and par Amour toujours. This fragrance pair, the first sensual and soft, the second playful and floral, evokes for women and young girls alike freshness and seduction.
